Shes a complete tool, and the way the triangle plays out is so absurd and unrealistic it's just super dumb, more than just weak. The problem with the love triangle is that if youve ever had your heart broken I cannot see anyone rooting for Ellie. While I agree with you, i feel the need to be more nit picky about the characters and general dialogue. His involvement in the game as is made it 10x more barrable and entertaining as opposed to a game with no John. Just a footnote, but I'd still keep the dynamic between John and Isaac, as John is a perfect foil for Isaac's character. Juggling between the characters would make the game so much better, as it wouldn't focus too much on the lackluster parts while still keeping the player's investment on the more average characters. The love triangle can stay in this scenario too, being revealed through conversation with Carver that Isaac is only there because Ellie is and so on. That way the player is eager to take control of Isaac and the scenario is more faithful to his character, as he basically ran errands in the first game too. Maybe the first being another person already on the squad like Jennifer Santos, or a new character who's interested in what stories the planet holds and motivation to be there.Īnd when the story starts to drag or comes to a holt for that character, we switch to Isaac who is running errands for the team on another part of the ship / planet. One way to make 3 better without changing the plot at all is to instead make Isaac the secondary protagonist. And a character with no motivation for the story's main goal, or even a shitty one, automatically makes any story a bad one. Not only that but his involvement in the story is weak, being reluctant and only budging because his ex girlfriend is involved (the love triangle being the weakest plot point). He comes off as painstakingly boring, an average Joe in an uncharming way that the story doesn't strength. 2 was good because he was a fugitive wanted by people for his involvement with the red marker, but was still an average guy.ģ suffers by having Isaac as the sole protagonist because it is no longer a situation that needs Isaac, there's nothing left to tell in his story. Isaac Clarke's greatest strength and why he worked as Dead Space 1 & 2's protagonist is because he's an average guy caught in a horrible situation.ġ was scary because Isaac was thrown in an environment where everything wanted to kill him.
